The suburbs of Washington DC in Maryland and Virginia are home to some great golf courses. To the northwest of the city the courses at Congressional Country Club, Chevy Chase Club and Columbia Country Club have each hosted multiple national championships throughout their histories.

Still in Maryland, on the northeast side of DC, is the huge campus of the University of Maryland. The University of Maryland Golf Course is a popular spot to play, located just inside the DC Beltway. On the east side of town, golfers who have a military background are welcome to play at the three golf courses at Andrews Air Force Base.

While they don’t have the championship history of the courses in suburban Maryland, northern Virginia is also home to some clubs with excellent golf courses. Army-Navy Country Club (in Arlington) and Mount Vernon Country Club (in Alexandria) are both near the Potomac River south of town.
